Football is a game of millions. But for players to show their full potential, certain conditions are needed. The 2026 stadiums (such as the new arenas in the US and Mexico for the World Cup) strive to approach the ideal.
The pitch should be even, springy, and green. Grass height: 25-30 mm. A natural pitch (a mixture of ryegrass and oat) requires round-the-clock care (irrigation, heating, lighting). Artificial grass (approved by FIFA) is used more often as it is not dependent on the weather and more durable. But the ideal is a natural pitch.
Temperature +18...+22°C, no rain or wind. A light breeze (up to 5 m/s) has almost no effect on the ball's flight. Water breaks are introduced when the temperature is above +30. Heavy rain makes the field slippery and the ball unpredictable.
The ideal stadium has 2000 lux of lighting, without shadows on the field. The light should be even (for TV broadcasts). Modern LED projectors turn on instantly and do not blind goalkeepers.
Players should be able to hear the referee's whistle even when the stands are cheering. The oval shape of the stadium (like "Wembley") creates a "sound wall," but not echo, which interferes with communication.
